Workshop
New instruments
Construction
of violins, violas and cellos according to different models and
copies of old masters as desired.
The
over 28 years stored of high-quality Bosnian Maple tone woods of
various flaming, or grain, give the instruments the beautiful appearance
and the precondition for the production of high-quality sounding
instruments.
The
Bavarian or Italian spruce is split from the trunk and also stored
for more than 28 years. This guarantees and protects the instrument
from deformations and cracks due to dehydration.
All woods are grown at altitudes between 1000 and 1500 meters, felled
in the right time and personally selected by me.
Each instrument reflects my 45 years of experience in violinmaking.
Repairs,
restorations
Instruments with great damage are assessed first in value, then
the options of repairs will be discussed with the customer.
Basically
repairs are possible to preserve, or restore the value of the instrument.
In exceptional cases, a simple and inexpensive repair to low-value
instruments are available upon request. However, then a guarantee
of durability is not always possible.
The professional repair, or restoration, is to obtain the original
value and condition and then you get a warranty. The optimum sonic
result is also the main objective.
New damage, such as cracks, are well and invisibly repaired.
Old, minor repairs, for instance with varnish damages, can be corrected
with investing a lot of time. Therefore, it can be costly.
Bow repairs, bow re-hairing
With constant use, good bows need regular re-hairing. For this,
the best Mongolian Sibirian or Chinese stallion tail hair is used.
These are not bleached to obtain the elastic strength.
They are selected by hand. Uniform thickness of individual hairs
and uniform coloring in white for violin, viola and cello. Double
bass hairs are often black or a mixture of white and black.
Unfortunately,
amateur work occur all too often and correcting the damage can be
costly.
New
head plates are recommended if, for example, cracks are in the old
head plates.
A professional care has to be taken renovating the head plate. The
original material shall not be affected, and the original shape
has to be restored.
A break
at the head can be reinforced with an inner veneer, when measurements
allow.
The value of the bow is usually lost.
